Flag Day Celebrated at Rockabilly Hall of Fame

June 14th marks a very special day in America. It is Flag Day, a day specifically set aside to honor “Old Glory.” Thursday, Boy Scouts Troop 203 helped with the Flag Day celebration at the International Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame in downtown Jackson. Though not recognized as an official American holiday until 1916, a Wisconsin teacher began the effort 31 years before. The date was chosen because on June 14, 1777 Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States. “I think Flag Day is just as important as Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day and the Fourth of July,” said Scout Master and flag expert Dan Brooks. “It’s honoring our county and all of the toil and efforts that were made to make the country we are today.” Flag Day is not an official federal holiday. But it is a state holiday in Pennsylvania, which is the only state in the country to recognize it in this way.
