Police: Worker Charged with Stealing Pills from Hospital

SAVANNAH, Tenn. – A Hardin County woman has been charged with stealing more than $11,000 worth of medication from Hardin Medical Center’s pharmacy. Tonya Branner, 35, a pharmacy technician at HMC, is accused of stealing more than 45,000 tablets of Hydrocodone and Xanax, and about 40,000 milliliters of Hydromet syrup. According to the police report, the medication has been disappearing since July of last year. HMC’s CEO Charlotte Burns told 7 Eyewitness News that Branner has been working for the hospital since 2006. Burns said Branner was terminated as soon as the medication was discovered missing. Savannah investigators said Branner has been charged with theft of property of more than $10,000. They said she could face additional charges from the Drug Enforcement Administration. Branner was released from the Hardin County Jail on $50,000 bond. Police said this was her first arrest.
