Two Teens Charged in North Jackson Murder
JACKSON, Tenn. – Two teens are now charged in connection with a homicide on August 11 in Jackson. Two 17-year-old boys are charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the shooting death of Jarvis Vinson. According to investigators, there was an altercation between individuals in the early morning hours of August 11. The two 17-year-old boys were not involved in the fight but received a phone call about it shortly afterward. The teens then allegedly drove to the area of Brianfield Drive in response to the call and a third unidentified man got into the car with the two 17-year-olds. Around 3:20 a.m., police said one of the 17-year-olds drove past Vinson, 23, and another 27-year-old man while they were outside a fourplex apartment building on the 20 block of Brianfield Drive. The second 17-year-old and the unidentified man both reportedly fired shots from a silver Oldsmobile. Vinson was struck once and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:25 a.m. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the identity of the second shooter. He is believed to be an adult. Both teens were arrested Monday around 3:50 p.m. following a traffic stop on Labelle Street after violent crimes investigators had conducted surveillance on them. They were stopped in the same silver Oldsmobile that was allegedly used in the drive-by shooting. During a search of the car, officers reported finding a clear plastic bag containing 14 individual bags of marijuana. The marijuana had a weight of 14.7 grams. Both teens were additionally charged with possession of marijuana with intent to resale. On Monday night, police recovered a semi-automatic handgun believed to have been used in the shooting from the home of one of the teens. Both teens are being held at the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center. A detention hearing on all charges is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon in Madison County Juvenile Court. 7 Eyewitness News will have more details on this story as they become available.
