Search dogs, officers, and a helicopter were used in the search around mile marker 87 on Interstate 40, Thursday morning. Officials told 7 Eyewitness News a man was trying to steal car parts from Southern Truck and Equipment and then ran across the street to a getaway car driven by a female suspect. The female suspect was arrested on the scene. Local business owner Adam Maree said the whole situation has the community on edge. “Anytime there is a fugitive or a suspect running away from police it’s a big risk to the public and the business owners. They might be subject for some desperate action of the suspect trying to hide or take somebody hostage or hijack a car to get away from the area, you get nervous,” said Maree. Deputies called off the search after a couple of hours but they are still trying to locate the suspect.
