JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson firefighters are investigating a suspicious fire. A man inside the house was found dead by firefighters of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities were called to the scene at 100 block of Silverdale Cove in Jackson just before 3:45 a.m.. Police tentatively identified the man found dead as the homeowner, Hunter Hodge, 35. His body was transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for positive identification. Neighbors said they woke up to the sound of sirens. They said they could feel intense heat coming through their windows. One neighbor said the overwhelming heat made her think her family was in danger. “I thought it was our house at first I thought it was time to go to school until I walked outside and felt the heat. All the windows are cracked over there because the heat is so bad. We came out here and the whole house was on fire like it blew up and the top part that had stairs collapsed into the middle of the house,” said neighbor Kayla Shaw. Based on physical evidence at the scene and situational circumstances, police believe that he suffered a self-inflicted, fatal, gunshot wound.
