Police Investigate Shots Fired at Midtown Bar

JACKSON, Tenn. – Jackson police said a man pulled out a gun inside a local sports bar on Hale Street and fired shots outside the building. However, the business was not supposed to be open. No one was hurt in the shooting and even neighbors said they usually do not have many complaints about the bar. “I think its just that crowd that comes down in the evening time ’cause I had to report them parking near my house,” said Janette Meriweather.. Jackson police said someone fired several shots into the air and then ran from the scene. The owner, Ike Taylor said the bar has been open for almost 20 years and he believes it was an isolated incident. “The gun was never fired inside the place…the gun was never fired inside the place there was no fight, no punches throwed,” said Ike Taylor. According to Madison County and the City of Jackson records clerk the doors of Larry’s Sports Bar should have been closed because the owner does not have a license to operate. 7 Eyewitness News called both offices and discovered the business license for Larry’s Sports Bar in the City of Jackson expired six months ago. Taylor insists if he is not supposed to operate then why has he not been shut down.
