Dental Issues Plaguing Children

HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. It may come as a shock to parents, but the Ad Council claims tooth decay is the number one issue plaguing children’s health. Dentists said bushing teeth is not often a priority. “You really have to make time, because we’re trying to prevent them from having problems in the future,” said Dr. Chris Burke, Pediatric Dentist at Beach Lake Dentistry in Lexington. Most parents are aware that brushing teeth should be a common practice in the household but dental care can be expensive. Children from low income families are two times more likely to have dental health issues by not being able to afford dental checkups, X-rays, and tooth repairs. TennCare is available to families who qualify, and parents should talk with their dentist to find out options that are available.
