Maury City Schools Encouraged to Go to College

MAURY CITY, Tenn.- One West Tennessee city held a special event to encourage students to go to college Maury City Elementary held a tailgate party for their students. Food, games and face painting and tractor rides were just some of the activities at the event It was all part of the “No Excuses” program the school adopted. The program partners the school, several universities, including the University of Tennessee, Old Miss and Vanderbilt. The event was held to help Pre-K and 5th grade students learn the importance of a college education. “At a young age like this we just think they have to learn about this from kindergarten, up. They don’t need to wait until they are in high school,” said Principal Mellisa Glenn of Maury City Elementary. “We want them to know from kindergarten up that college is a possibility for them.” This is the first year for the event.
