Sentencing in Murder of Henderson Police Officer

JACKSON, Tenn. – The gunman who pleaded guilty to killing Henderson Police Captain Dennis Cagle in a shootout inside a grocery store in 2009 was sentenced to life in prison plus 10-years, Thursday. The sentencing of Ricky Lee Stewart, 51, comes after his guilty plea almost a year ago to four counts, including first degree murder. Stewart admitted to shooting Cagle while trying to rob the Save-A-Lot grocery store in Henderson. Stewart had already served prison time before the shooting. Stewart’s wife and accomplice, Cheryl Steward, pleaded guilty last month to less serious charges. She will be sentenced November 30.
