Former Major League Pitcher Learning to Start with the Generals

JACKSON, Tenn.-Game four in the Generals’ five-game series with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos got underway Tuesday night at the Ballpark at Jackson. The scheduled starter for the Generals, a former major league relief pitcher, Chance Ruffin, 24, made 15 appearances for the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners in 2011. Last year, the right-hander spent the entire season with the Mariners triple-A affiliate, the Tacoma Rainiers. During the off-season, the organization decided to ask Ruffin to become a starting pitcher, and he has been up to the challenge so far. “It’s a whole different position as far as I’m concerned. Some guys are better as relievers and some guys are better as starters. So, it’s a learning process for me. I’m trying to take as much advise as I can and learn as I go,” said Chance Ruffin, Jackson Generals starting pitcher.
