DYERSBURG, Tenn- One man was shot and several others robbed at gunpoint, all in the same neighborhood within minutes of each other, Wednesday morning. According to Dyersburg Police, just after midnight a call came in about a man shot on Sellers Drive. While investigating that scene, police said three other people were robbed at gunpoint in the same block. They weren’t injured but the shooting victim was hurt seriously enough to be airlifted to The Med in Memphis. Neighbors said they are concerned that the violence will only get worse. “When you’re afraid to come home that’s seriously important,” said Robert Taylor, the Alderman of the District where the shooting occurred. “It seems some districts get priority over others,” said Lee Strahan, a resident who lives in the area. Many residents said more police presence in their district will help; but in the meantime to save their community, residents are planning district meetings in hopes of getting more people involved. They would also like to meet with county officials and even state legislators. “If we all get on one accord, we can make change,” said Alderman Taylor. The district meeting is scheduled for August 17. Police are asking anyone with information on the shooting or robberies to contact the Dyersburg Police Department at (731) 285-1212.
