Jackson Celebrates Being “Most Livable”

City officials from all over Jackson attended a ceremony this afternoon to celebrate Jackson’s receipt of the United States Conference of Mayors 2013 Livability Award. Former mayors selected Jackson from a pool of more than 200 small cities as the most livable small city in America. The JumpStart Jackson initiative placed Jackson in the national spotlight for creating a viable way to encourage citizens to embrace health and wellness. Receiving the City Livability Award from the U.S. Conference of Mayors recognizes mayoral leadership in developing and implementing programs that improve the quality of life in America’s cities focusing on the leadership, creativity, and innovation demonstrated by the mayors and citizens. This is the 34th year that small cities have competed for the prestigious award.
