US prosecutor had warned of aide’s suicide risk

A federal prosecutor warned more than a month ago that the former chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander might be at risk of harming himself over child pornography charges.

Officials said Friday that former staffer Ryan Loskarn hanged himself in the basement of his parents’ home in Sykesville, Md.

The warning came on Dec. 16 from Assistant U.S. Attorney Mi Yung Park during a detention hearing in Washington.

Park argued that Loskarn should be detained because he had said after his arrest five days earlier that his life was over.

The judge released Loskarn to home detention after defense attorney Pamela Satterfield said there was nothing to suggest he would kill himself.

The 35-year-old had been living since then with his parents.
