Police Officer Killed in Car Crash
SALSBURY, Tenn. — A law enforcement officer is dead after a car crash, Monday morning. Eddie Hamer, a reserve patrolman with the Whiteville Police Department, died in a single vehicle crash around 11 a.m, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Officials said Officer Hamer was the only one involved in the crash that took his life, and while they’re still investigating the cause of the wreck, they said he died on the scene. “It’s a big hit for law enforcement when we lose one of our own,” Chief Steven Stanley of the Whiteville Police Department said. According to Chief Stanley, Officer Hamer worked with the Whiteville Police Department since 2005. He also worked with the Hardeman County Animal Control. “He loved every aspect of law enforcement,” Chief Stanley said. Residents who knew Officer Hamer said he was heavily involved in the community. He even won the Volunteer of the Year Award for the Whiteville Police Department twice in his career. “He devoted a lot of his time volunteering at the elementary school providing security,” Chief Stanley said. No funeral arrangements have been made at this time; but officers said they plan to have a small memorial in his honor.
