Chinese New Year Celebrated in Jackson

JACKSON, Tenn.-. On the eve of the Chinese New Year. West Tennesseans celebrate the Year of the Horse. Thursday night, families of adopted children from China joined for their annual celebration at a local restaurant. The Chinese New Year, which begins Friday is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. Parents said it is important to celebrate their children’s heritage, especially this time of year. “We still try and celebrate some of the Chinese traditions and Chinese New Year is a big one and this is an opportunity for them to sIt with other children who have been adopted who are Chinese and still celebrate their culture,” said Joseph Gill, a parent. This was the fourteenth year for this event.
