Fire crews respond to gas line explosion

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Emergency officials say firefighters have responded to a blaze in Chattanooga that began when a construction crew hit a gas line and ignited an explosion.

Officials told WRCB-TV (http://bit.ly/1dQIhTt) that firefighters were called to the scene on Patten Chapel Road Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported.

An image on the station shows a truck and a backhoe engulfed in flames from the blaze, which was fueled by the gas leak.

The station reports that the city was on the scene and working to turn off the gas. Power to several blocks had to be cut, a nearby motel was evacuated and the roadway was closed.
