Winds knock down side pieces of Neyland scoreboard

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Heavy winds have knocked down some panels on the side of Neyland Stadium’s main scoreboard.

University spokesperson Karen Ann Simsen said a large gust came through Wednesday shortly after 1 p.m. Simsen said the incident caused no injuries but added that “a couple of cars that were parked below the stadium were damaged.” Simsen says the only activity going on at the stadium at the time was a few maintenance workers doing routine tasks.

Simsen says she didn’t know exactly how many panels blew off the scoreboard. Simsen said University of Tennessee police had cordoned off the area Wednesday afternoon and were checking for evidence of any other damage.
