Ex-soldier charged with killing wife goes on trial
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The trial has begun for a former Fort Campbell soldier accused of killing his wife.
The Leaf-Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/1g6w0wu) reports testimony began Monday in the trial of Nicholas Durant, who is charged with murder in the 2012 shooting death of Spc. Shardae Wright. The 23-year-old was found dead of multiple gunshot wounds in the bathtub of a Clarksville apartment.
The newspaper reports Durant and Wright had been married for 10 days when the shooting took place.
Prosecutor Helen Young said Durant thought about his actions before fatally shooting his wife.
Defense attorney Crystal Myers said Durant admits shooting Wright, but said he’s not guilty of murder. She said the couple had been arguing, that her client had been drinking and that he “absolutely just lost it.”
