BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — Brownsville teens say they watched the fight escalate into a shooting in their own neighborhood. Police were on their way to break up a fight when officers got the call gunshots were being fired. Two boys were shot, one in the hand, and the other in the leg. “There’s no set pattern, there’s no rhyme or reason. They just happened to all be in that neighborhood,” says Brownsville Police Captain Chuck Willis. He says that’s why suspects are so hard to track down. One mother in the neighborhood said she’s afraid someone’s life is going to be lost before any progress is made in the case. Residents on Pinewood Avenue say they’re also worried for their safety. “Folks are scared to come outside because they’re scared something’s gonna happen to them,” says one teen, who was too scared to be identified. “It’s been going on for a while, but I don’t know what the cause of it is. It’s been going on for a long period of time.” Police have made no arrests in this case. They are asking anyone with information about Tuesday night’s shooting to contact the Brownsville Police Department or Crimestoppers.
