Retiring Police Chief Goes Out in Style

SAVANNAH, Tenn.- A West Tennessee police chief retires and goes out in style. Savannah Police Chief Donald Derr was given a police escort home Wednesday as a salute to his years of service. Derr started at the department as a dispatcher in 1978 and took over as chief in 2000, totaling more than 35 years of service. The former chief said he will miss everyone he worked with, but looks forward to what the future holds. “I am going to miss dealing with the employees of course. It’s a great group here, working with them day in and day out. The problems that we deal with out here in the public i am going to miss them tremendously, said former Police Chief Donald Derr of the Savannah Police Department. Although he is retiring as chief he will take a job as a court security officer at the Federal Courthouse in Jackson starting Monday.
