Educator of the Week: Brown

MILAN, Tenn.–Josie Brown teaches first grade at Milan Elementary School. “We do a lot of songs and we sing to try to learn things and remember things,” said Brown. The second year teachers says she knew growing up that one day she would become an educator. “Growing up with my brother and my sister, we always played school,” said Brown. “It was just something that I was always interested in.” Brown attended Bethel University and enjoys seeing her students learn. “It’s very rewarding to me when they understand what I have taught them and they’re an inspiration to me,” she said. Brown tries to make lessons fun for students. “I love them,” she said. “They’re very close to me. I treat them like they’re my own.” Brown admits teaching is tough, but says she enjoys every minute. “People ask me all the time how do you do it?” she said. “And I just I love it. I love being in the room. I love working hard. I love working for my students.” Brown says she could not imagine doing anything else. Brown will be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month Award. To vote for her go to www.seehowitaddsup.com.
