Police lift lockdown at Memphis high school

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A lockdown at East High School in Memphis has been lifted after a report of possible armed people inside appeared to be a false alarm.

Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph said officers who searched the building Friday morning after a tip about trespassers found nothing during their search.

The lockdown was lifted at about 10:30 a.m.

A phone message sent to parents earlier said students were in their classrooms with their teachers during the search.

A handful of police vehicles and several officers were outside the school, but did not appear to be acting with any sense of urgency. Some parents also were gathered outside the building during the search.
