Former Arizona lawmaker Stan Turley dies at age 93
PHOENIX (AP) – Former longtime Arizona lawmaker Stan Turley has died.
Family members say the 93-year-old Turley died Saturday of natural causes at his Mesa home.
Turley was a Republican who served in the state Legislature from 1965 to 1987 and was a former Speaker of the House and a state Senate president.
He later served on the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency.
Gov. Jan Brewer calls Turley one of Arizona’s finest public servants and says he was a statesman in every sense of the word.
Turley’s family says he’s survived by seven children, 28 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren.
His funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at a Mormon chapel in Mesa.
