Man Shot at North Jackson Apartment Complex

NORTH JACKSON — Police are looking for a gunman in a late Monday morning shooting at a North Jackson apartment complex. The victim, a 20-year-old Jackson man, was rushed to the hospital after being shot in the leg at 11:10 a.m. at the Hermitage Apartments located at 189 Old Hickory Blvd., according to Lt. David DeMoss. A woman who didn’t want to be identified says the violence in North Jackson is getting out of control. “I was at the computer and I heard a bang, bang,” the woman said. “And then a few seconds later another bang.” According to police, the man had a gunshot wound to the calf. When police caught up with him at the hospital, he acknowledged that he had been shot outside the Hermitage Apartments but declined to give investigators any further information. The unidentified woman says she’s concerned about the violence in the area. “Yea, yea it makes me frightened especially when we’ve had a number of people coming to our door asking for money,” the woman said. The man, who did not live at the apartment complex, was expected to be treated and released from the hospital. Businesses on Old Hickory say they hope the violence doesn’t run off customers. “Well I can see why the women and children would be alarmed cause of the daytime violence that once, occasionally happens in a small town like this,” Brian Collins said, an insurance agent. The woman says from now on her doors will be locked. “We’ve had people that’ll drive up in our driveway and if the garage door is open they ask me if things that are in my garage are for sale,” the woman added.
