Reenactment of Rienzi battle set for May 2-4
RIENZI, Miss. (AP) – Reenactors under the direction of the 3rd Tennessee Calvary and 48th Tennessee Infantry will bring life to the Battle of Rienzi May 2-4.
The Civil War battle was fought between 1861 and 1865. Historians say after the South officially surrendered to the Union, the Battle of Rienzi raged on for weeks before the troops were notified the war was over.
The fourth annual battle reenactment is sponsored by the Rienzi Heritage Committee.
Events will begin at 8 a.m. each day. Battles will begin each day at 2 p.m.
In conjunction with the reenactment, Rienzi will also be holding its third annual Spring Fest downtown.
