New Field Drainage System at Ballpark at Jackson Working

JACKSON, Tenn.- After a record number of rain-outs last season, the Jackson Generals are playing on a renovated field this year. Crews at the Ballpark at Jackson said the new drainage system is working out as well as they had hoped, despite a rain-out Wednesday and a rain delay Thursday night. The grounds manager said the field is draining much faster with very little puddling. The head turf manager for the team said once they remove the tarp, the field should be ready to go. “You don’t have to worry about, ‘Oh no, there’s a lot of rain coming, are we going to have to put a tarp in the right field, are we going to have to do this? No, just let the rain come and then dump it and let’s play ball,” said Marty Wallace, head turf manager at the Ballpark at Jackson. In the event of a rain delay, it is the umpires who choose whether to contiue or cancel a game based on field conditions.
