Shelby County commissioner charged with assault

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Shelby County Commissioner is facing an assault charge after a confrontation over a parking spot at a hospital.

The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/1xUDQA0) reports Henri Brooks turned herself in at Jail East on Thursday shortly after a warrant was issued and was released on bond. Her attorney, Andre Wharton, says she is innocent of the charge.

According to a police report, the conflict between Brooks and Liese Nichols occurred Tuesday in a parking area near Methodist University Hospital.

Nichols told police that she had to swerve to miss Brooks’ vehicle in the lot and then Brooks began yelling at her, grabbed her cellphone and dumped water on her.

Brooks said Nichols was the one who got in her face and began yelling.
