Last charge against UTC student dropped

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – The remaining charge against a University of Tennessee at Chattanooga student who was arrested after trying to approach a street preacher on campus has been dropped.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1xeOQtC) reports a judge dismissed a resisting arrest charge against Cole Montalvo on Monday as long as he stays out of trouble for six months.

Montalvo was charged on Nov. 13, 2013, after crossing a “free speech” perimeter to question street preacher Angela Cummings. Campus security officers and police arrested him after wrestling him to the ground. Other charges of inciting to riot, disorderly conduct and obstruction of justice had been dismissed in January after a judge found evidence lacking.

Prosecution and defense attorneys said they were pleased with the outcome of the case.
