Off-duty Memphis officer questioned in shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a Memphis police officer is being questioned in connection with a fatal shooting and has been relieved of duty pending the investigation.

Shelby County sheriff’s spokesman Chip Washington says the officer was off-duty when she shot another woman during a domestic argument at a home early Wednesday.

Washington says the officer, 34-year-old Jaselyn Grant, fired several shots. The victim, 29-year-old Keara Crowder, was found by officers in the front yard, bleeding.

Crowder was taken to a hospital in critical condition. She died later Wednesday.

Washington says a 12-year-old boy who was in the home was not injured. No charges have been filed.

Memphis police said Wednesday night that Grant had been relieved of duty pending the investigation’s outcome.
