Ex-school board member denied early prison release
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A former Knox County school board member has lost his bid to get out of prison early.
The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1y053BU ) reports that Knox County Criminal Court Judge Scott Green on Friday denied Bill Phillips’ attempt for early release.
The 50-year-old Phillips was sentenced to 10 years in prison in February for violating his probation.
The former Knoxville businessman had been convicted of two counts of aggravated assault for attacking his now ex-wife and attempting to obtain prescription narcotics illegally.
Phillips read a tearful statement during his attempt at early release. He apologized for his past actions and took responsibility for domestic violence and addiction to Ambien, a sleep aid.
After his 20-minute appeal from the witness stand, the judge told him there are consequences for actions in life
