Former Memphis officer pleads guilty to misconduct

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a former Memphis police officer has pleaded guilty to forcing a fugitive to perform sex acts.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 27-year-old Brandon Berry pleaded guilty Tuesday to official misconduct. Berry could receive diversion, probation, up to two years in prison or a combination of those at sentencing Jan. 7

An investigation showed Berry stopped a motorist who had picked up another man in his vehicle. Berry ordered the driver to get into his patrol car and told the other man to leave.

Authorities say Berry told the driver he had an outstanding warrant. But instead of arresting the man, Berry had him get into the front seat and drove to an alley. That’s when the sex acts took place.

Berry resigned from the police department.
