ETSU reinstates Rugby Club
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) – East Tennessee State University says it has reinstated the school’s Rugby Club after finding it engaged in no wrongdoing in connection to a rape allegation at an off-campus party.
The school said in a statement on Thursday that it found the club did not host the party where the alleged assault occurred and that the only involvement ETSU students had in the incident was to provide assistance and support for the alleged victim.
A 17-year-old girl told police that a Western Carolina University rugby player raped her at the party last month after the teams played a match.
Police charged 22-year-old Dylan Hutchins of Thomasville, North Carolina, with statutory rape. Police said Hutchins’ account of the encounter differed from the girl’s.
