New Johnsonville mayor arrested

NEW JOHNSONVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Police have arrested the mayor of New Johnsonville on a theft charge.

WTVF-TV (http://bit.ly/1vlTPCm) reports Mayor Lance Loveless was arrested, booked and then released from jail on Wednesday after a grand jury indicted him on Monday.

Loveless was indicted after the Tennessee Comptroller investigated a trip the city’s public works manager, Rich Kent, took in 2012 to pick up the mayor’s vehicle in South Carolina. Kent drove a city vehicle and its motor blew out near the North Carolina border.

Instead of getting it fixed nearby, the city paid nearly $1,000 to have the truck towed to Madison.

The comptroller’s office said Loveless paid the city $1,182 in July, which equaled the cost of the towing and the fuel for the trip.
