Pistol found inside carry-on at Nashville airport
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Officials at Nashville International Airport have discovered a loaded gun inside a passenger’s carry-on bag.
The Transportation Security Administration says the .380 pistol was found around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday. Airport police took possession of the bag.
It is the 47th firearm found by TSA officers at the security checkpoint at the Nashville airport this year. That matches the total found there in 2013. The total nationwide for 2014 as of Dec. 1 was 2,000, up from 1,813 for all of 2013.
The TSA says firearms may be transported in checked bags but must be declared to the airline, in a proper carrying case and unloaded. Firearms are prohibited in carry-on bags.
