Officials: No arrests yet in case of burned woman

COURTLAND, Miss. (AP) – With severe burns all over her body, Jessica Chambers spoke to firefighters on a rural Mississippi road, perhaps giving them clues about who set her on fire and ultimately caused her death from thermal injuries.

Authorities in Mississippi said Thursday that they’ve made no arrests and are working to determine who doused the 19-year-old woman with a flammable liquid and set her on fire Saturday. Officials said they don’t expect any arrests in the near future but are following up on every tip.

Police say Courtland is a small community rocked by the horrendous crime, and they hope people who’ve been quiet so far will come forward with information.

Among the clues police are examining are a surveillance video that shows Chambers at a gas station before she was found, cellphone records and interviews with potential witnesses.
