2015 Summer Camps at The Dixie (Pottery, Creative Writing, Photography)

Mudslinger Pottery Camp Instructor: Lori Nolen Monday – Friday June 1-5 (class at Pottery Studio) PreK-K Grades: 9:00-10:00 a.m. 1st-2nd Grades: 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. 3rd-4th Grades: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. 5th-8th Grades: 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Cost: $85 Classes will consist of an introduction to basic pottery skills of pinching, coil-building, slab construction, and throwing on the potter‘s wheel. The student will also be introduced to various glazing and firing processes. Creative Writing Camp Instructor: Alex Cox Monday – Friday June 1-5 9-12th Grades: 11:00 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. 6th-8th Grades: 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. 3rd-5th Grades: 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. 1st-2nd Grades: 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Cost: $85 “Words mean more than what is set down on paper,” said writer Maya Angelou. Every word, both written and spoken, can be the start of an amazing adventure! Students will enjoy five days of imaginative, inspiring, and creative fun designed to enhance their understanding of storytelling. All students will be instructed, according to age level, on what makes a story – character, plot, setting, imagery, etc… Famous literary works will also be visited and incorporated into each lesson…But remember, the most important stories are your own! Creative Exhibition Coffee House—come share your creative writing stories on Friday, June 5th from 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Bring your favorite coffee mug, and enjoy the company of other aspiring writers (students who participated in Creative Writing Camp)! Photography Camp Instructor: Jim Veneman Monday – Friday June 1-5 3rd-8th Grades: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Cost: $85 When it comes to making an excellent photograph, did you know that the camera is far less important than the one holding it? It’s true. Over these three days you will experience how to SEE more creatively. You will use your imagination to go beyond selfies and capture truly fascinating photographs. The digital photography summer camp is a guaranteed great time, and it might just change the way you see the world around you. Special note **Digital Cameras will be provided for this camp! Adult Photography Camp Instructor: Jim Veneman Thursday, Friday, Saturday ONLY June 4, 5, 6 Thursday and Friday: 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Saturday: 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Cost: $85 Amazing photographs happen when your heart, mind and eye work together. Yes, the camera does play a role, but the primary ingredients are your own creativity and imagination. During these three sessions you will be challenged to see your subjects in new ways, and to make images from a fresh, new perspective. Current trends and the exciting challenges found in photography will be a part of each session. You will not just be sitting on the sidelines listening to presentations. You will be involved in projects that will help you see beyond the surface of the world around you. This camp is for photographers of any skill level. Whether you’ve just begun or have been using your digital camera for years, the camp will move you forward in your pursuit of finer photographs. Students are responsible for having own digital photo taking device. (point-and-shoot, DSLR or cell phone camera)
