Lakeland man indicted in deaths of 2 in hit-and-run
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Prosecutors say a 25-year-old man has been indicted on reckless vehicular homicide charges in the deaths of two people on Interstate 40.
The Shelby County district attorney’s office says Hunter Queen of Lakeland was indicted Tuesday in the Aug. 18, 2013, deaths of Jessika Cavasos and Derrick Cross.
Cavasos and Cross were standing by their disabled vehicle on an emergency lane on I-40 in Memphis when they were struck and killed by the left front side and driver’s side mirror of a white pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed.
Queen, who is free on bond, was arrested last July at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Training Academy, where he was a recruit.
Queen also was indicted on two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
