HUD finds 5 units in Memphis apartment complexes unlivable
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has determined that five units in two Memphis apartment complexes are uninhabitable and is forcing their owner to pay for the relocation of the families who live in them.
According to The Commercial Appeal (http://bit.ly/1Qjdh0E), HUD wants Global Ministries Foundation to pay for moving expenses and rent for temporary units away from Goodwill Village and Warren Apartments.
In a letter, HUD said it was taking the action “due to the uninhabitable conditions of the residential units at the subject properties.”
Jason Tyler, a spokesman for Global Ministries Foundation, says it is reserving comment until a Thursday press conference.
Also, Mayor A C Wharton Jr.’s office said Tuesday city inspectors have deemed another 40 units at the two complexes unsuitable for residents.
