Below Average this Weekend, Rain/Storms Back in the Middle of Next Week!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
We are still waiting on the official numbers from the National Weather Service, but it looks like our April, just like March, was one of the top 3 warmest months on record. We only saw 4 days below average the entire month. May on the other hand, has started out below average and will stay that way through the weekend. We could warm up a bit next week and that will bring back a chance for some showers and storms in the middle of the week. Overall the weekend is looking dry and Sunday is looking like a nice sunny day. We will have the official report on where April ranks, your complete weekend forecast and more on next week’s storm threat coming up here.
STORM DAMAGE UPDATE:
That great video we posted from Dyersburg yesterday was indeed a weak tornado. It was on the ground for about a mile, was 100 yards wide, and on the ground for 4 minutes. Some damage was done to a warehouse, trees were damaged along East Court Street and there was some minor roof damage to a home on Auburn street. The storms brought some hail and scattered straight line winds that caused power outages due to downed trees and power lines. Heavy rain and intense rainfall rates led to some isolated flooding issues as well.
THIS WEEK:
We are still waiting on the numbers, but it looks like we might have just been through our warmest April on record. We just had our 3rd warmest March on record too. Let’s hope that isn’t a sign for what is to come our way for the summer. May on the other hand, is starting out below normal and will stay that way until Monday. More showers and storms are coming in the middle of next week and severe weather cannot be ruled out as of now. We are still well below average on the year from precipitation so we still have plenty of work to do to crawl out of this drought.

Thursday was a mostly cloudy day but we stayed dry. Highs only reached up to around 70° again due to the northerly winds. Thursday night also feel down to the upper 40s. Another weak front passed on Friday but it was a dry front and really didn’t cool things down much. Storms are not expected for a few days but could be coming back next week. Highs on Friday reached up to the mid to upper 60s and Friday night will be a bit chilly with lows dropping into the mid 40s to kick off the weekend. The winds will stay light out of the northeast and plenty of clouds will be lingering around overnight.
THIS WEEKEND:
Dry weather is expected this weekend and it will be quite Spring-like. It will not be too hot and will be a great weekend for outdoor chores or activities. Highs on Saturday will reach the upper 60s and low 70s look to be in on the way for Sunday. Saturday morning will be in the mid 40s but we could fall into the low 40s on Sunday morning. A frost of a freeze though is not expected although it might be cool enough that you will need to turn on your heater. A few upper 30s cannot be ruled out as well for some of us. Sunday night lows will fall down to the low to mid 50s and be a little warmer as southerly winds will move back in late in the day on Sunday. Saturday the winds will stay out of the north, but turn to the west on Sunday and to the southwest by Sunday night. Expected plenty of sunshine this weekend although some clouds could be lingering around on Saturday from Friday’s cold front.
NEXT WEEK:
The weather is going to start out quite nice next week but some showers and storms may try to return by the middle of next week. We will start out around 50° Monday morning, but by the afternoon, highs will reach up to around 80° with mostly sunny skies. The winds will return to the southwest to kick off the work week and hang out from the south into the middle of the week. Clouds will increase a bit on Tuesday and become mostly cloudy again by Wednesday. We cannot rule out a shower or two Tuesday afternoon, but most of us will see rain chances return on Tuesday evening into Wednesday next week. Some storms could be possible so we will need to keep an eye on the forecast as we get going again next week. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday will also reach the mid to upper 70s. Overnight lows on Monday and Tuesday nights will drop down close to 60°.
