Student charged with assaulting high school football coach

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) – Authorities say a high school football coach in Middle Tennessee is recovering at a hospital after a student attacked him in his office.

Tom Nolan, who is the principal at Riverdale High School in Murfreesboro, told The Daily News (http://on.dnj.com/1aS7fTU) that coach Ron Aydelott suffered serious injuries to his face on Tuesday and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for surgery.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department says a 17-year-old student was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. A school resource officer transported him to the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center.

Nolan said the student was not a football player.
