Woman appears on gun charge, multiple drug counts

DOWNTOWN JACKSON — A woman was in court Friday after police say they found drugs and a gun in her vehicle. Jayla Permenter faces charges including possession of meth and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to court documents. Police responded about 10 p.m. Thursday to a restaurant in the 2000 block of North Highland Avenue in reference to man in the area with outstanding warrants, according to an affidavit. Police found the man in a silver Chevrolet Blazer driven by Permenter, according to the affidavit, and went on to find a .9 mm handgun in the console. During the investigation, officers found Permenter to be in possession of 1.8 grams of meth, two hydrocodone pills in a cosmetic case and drug paraphernalia including baggies and a digital scale with white powder residue, according to the affidavit. The SUV is registered to Permenter, the document states. Permenter is charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, possession of meth with intent to resell, possession of hydrocodone and possession of drug paraphernalia. She is being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
