University of Tennessee approves 3 percent tuition hike
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The University of Tennessee board of trustees has approved a tuition increase for undergraduates of 3 percent at its three main campuses.
The school said it is the lowest tuition percentage increase in more than 30 years, due to an increase of $24.4 million in state support and efforts to secure a long-term business model.
In-state undergraduate annual tuition increases amount to $312 for freshmen in Knoxville to $10,678; $194 in Chattanooga to $6,624; and $202 in Martin to $6,918.
Last week, the Tennessee Board of Regents approved tuition increases at the state’s colleges and universities that are among the lowest on average in nearly 20 years: 3.4 percent at 13 community colleges, up to 3.9 percent at six universities and 4 percent at 27 colleges of applied technology.
