HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — Fire officials say a recent blaze that destroyed a house is being investigated as suspicious. The fire has been deemed suspicious, and arson investigators were on scene this week at the Mayes Avenue home, according to Director of Public Safety Walter Smothers. The fire occurred July 18, and some residents reported hearing explosions, according to officials. Once the flames were under control, firefighters could see that bricks appeared to have been blown off the north side of the home and blackened by either fire or an explosion, according to the fire department. The owner of the house told firefighters he was mowing his front lawn when he noticed smoke coming from the back of the house but had no idea what caused the fire.
