MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – Matt Barnes believes he epitomizes the “Grit & Grind” style of play the Memphis Grizzlies have prided themselves on for years.

Now that the Grizzlies have acquired him, the 35-year-old veteran forward is eager to continue playing that brand of basketball while winning over a fan base accustomed to cheering against him.

The Grizzlies acquired Barnes from the Charlotte Hornets last month in exchange for guard Luke Ridnour.

Barnes averaged 10.1 points and 4 rebounds per game with the Los Angeles Clippers last season.

The Grizzlies believe Barnes’ tenacious style makes him an ideal fit for this franchise. General manager Chris Wallace says “if there’s any player that was destined to be a Grizzly, it’s Matt Barnes.”
