King University expanding the Oval, other upgrades planned
BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) – King University in Bristol is beginning the first of a series of planned upgrades with an expansion of a walk called the Oval in the center of campus.
The Bristol Herald Courier reports (http://bit.ly/1LRi1so) faculty, staff, alumni and board of trustees members on Tuesday ceremonially removed some of the 40,000 bricks that make up the 53-year-old walkway. They will be replaced with pavers, expanding the path to 10 feet wide from the current 8 feet wide.
Interim President Richard Ray said the buildings that form the King community open onto the Oval. He thinks the upgrade will be greeted with enthusiasm.
The $500,000 project should be complete by November. Next summer the university plans to spend $1 million refurbishing the library and residential halls.
