JACKSON, Tenn. — A man was in city court Monday after police allegedly caught him shoplifting and in illegal possession of a gun. Brent Brown was arrested Saturday after a Belk loss prevention employee reported him to police for putting merchandise in a backpack, according to an affidavit. Police say they confronted Brown in a dressing room and found nine Polo hats, a Polo shirt and a pair of Polo pants in his backpack, according to the affidavit. Brown also had a Polo hat concealed in the crotch of his pants, the document states. Court papers say the total value of the concealed items was $533. During a search, officers also found a loaded .380 handgun in Brown’s pocket, according to the affidavit. Police say Brown is a convicted felon. Brown is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and theft of property over $500. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
