Powerboat enthusiasts say Nashville growing destination
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Powerboat enthusiasts say Nashville is a growing destination for the sport.
The Old Hickory Fun Run was held over the weekend. Chad Collier is director of the Tennessee Powerboat Club.
Collier told The Tennessean (http://tnne.ws/1KKlEPn) that more than 100 powerboats participated in the event, mainly from Middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. He says the event used to draw only about 30 boats.
Owners don’t race their boats at fun runs, despite having the capability of traveling at nearly 200 mph. Instead, they cruise about 80 miles, receive a poker chip and are eventually dealt seven playing cards for poker.
Stu Jones is founder of the Florida Powerboat Club, and agrees Nashville is a growing “hot bed” for powerboat gatherings.
Other powerboat run destinations include Lake Lanier near Atlanta, Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and Miami.
