Head of UAW rival at Tenn. Volkswagen plant steps down
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – The head of a rival to the United Auto Workers union at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga has stepped down.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports (http://bit.ly/1LcN57u ) that Sean Moss, the president of the American Council of Employees, cited “personal matters” in his decision to resign. Vice President David Reed will succeed Moss as head of the group known as ACE.
ACE was founded to counter the UAW’s efforts to gain exclusive bargaining rights for workers at Volkswagen plant. According to disclosures filed with the Department of Labor, the UAW has signed up 816 members, or 55 percent of the blue collar workforce at the plant, while ACE had 381 members among both hourly and salaried employees.
The UAW narrowly lost a unionization vote at the plant in February 2014
