Woman given new trial in mother’s 2005 death declines parole
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Memphis woman who received a new trial in the stabbing death of her mother has declined parole.
The Commercial Appeal reports (http://bit.ly/1hzvtGs ) Noura Jackson told the parole board on Monday that she planned to serve the rest of her sentence. She is due to be released in March 2017.
Board of Parole representative Melissa McDonald says the board ruled that Jackson would not be eligible for parole again for the remainder of her sentence.
Jackson was originally convicted in the 2005 death of Jennifer Jackson and sentenced to 20 years and nine months in prison. Last year, the Tennessee Supreme Court ordered a new trial, citing two constitutional errors made by the lead prosecutor.
In May, Jackson entered a plea and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
