JACKSON, Tenn. — Many Americans are still working even though Labor Day is considered to be a national day of rest. While many West Tennesseans are enjoying the last vacation day of summer, others were working diligently to make sure people have the conveniences they encounter on a daily basis. Some people say that working during the holidays gives them the opportunity to get jobs done that are otherwise difficult to do during the regular weekday. “It has been nice to get a little bit of work done that normally I wouldn’t be able to do during a typical weekday,” said Jeremy Hart, an employee at Sherwin-Williams Paint Store. People working include store clerks and restaurant owners, among others. However, some say they enjoy it. “It feels good. I love work, so it’s good for me,” said Sandra Carpenter of Old Medina Market. Labor Day was first recognized by the government in the 1890s.
